Wounds

get lost
“get lost” by ~Standing-Apart

I participated in the latest challenge on Poets Who Blog, which was to create a poem using a list of ten words (these ten words are highlighted in the poem below. The result was this poem, “Wounds”. Enjoy.

————————————————————————

They say time heals all wounds.
How precious is that healing
As I try to collect in into my heart and
Desperately to try avoid a role reversal -
I don’t want to turn into a monster
Like you.
Clarify for me why I should
Forgive you
Now,
For I still wear volatile wounds from your
Silent disapprovals and caustic cut-downs,
And I still remember how I used to flutter inside
When I saw your hand raised, reared back, and
Ready to hit me again.
I would escape into fantasy – books and daydreams –
To dull the pain,
To make me forget,
And to help hasten the day when my magic number –
Eighteen –
Would come up and I could leave you forever -
And I did.

But now – now you say that
You come in peace?

Get bent.

  1. And I still remember how I used to flutter inside
When I saw your hand raised, reared back, and
    Ready to hit me again.

That part was so intense. I felt my heart clutch reading that.

Thanks for taking part in our project at PWB.

  2. No problem. And thank you for stopping by and leaving a comment. I’m glad you liked “Wounds”.

  3. you and i wrote about the same thing,, but from two very different viewpoints in time.. wow.. this was really good,, and i get the feeling it was indeed the forbearer to my poem….

  4. Thank you, and thank you for stopping by. I think we go through stages from initial hurt, to anger (which was where this was written from) to realization to forgiveness.

Please feel free to come again soon.

  5. I like the way you weave the 10 words seamlessly into the poem – and the ending is brilliant!

I think finding a way to express the anger positively through some sort of creative expression, rather than through more destructive channels, is a vital part of the path that leads to a full-hearted forgiveness. Not that I’ve been through anything as intense as what you’re describing here, but I think it’s generally so much more positive.

Good to see you join PWB – look forward to reading more of your poems!

  6. Hello Lirone:

Thank you for stopping by and leaving a comment. Honestly, when I looked at the way the words were streamed together on PWB, the rest started to kind of fall out of the sky.

Welcome. Please feel free to stop by again.
