The Worst Advice That I Have Ever Received
This poem comes from prompt #9 on Scott Wood’s journal – “Write a poem about the worst advice you ever got”. This is the result – a chained hay(na)ku about some bad advice my aunt (yes, the notorious one, for those who know) gave me in high school. Implied and unspoken advice, no less. Anyway, enjoy.

The
worst advice
I ever received
was
to let
the man make
the
first move;
in other words,
good
girls don’t
ask men out.
I
let so
many men slip
through
my fingers;
so many times
I
silently said
goodbye to them
inside
my mind
as they left.
One
time, I
forgot about the
advice
my aunt
had given me.
I
will be
married this October.

It was probably not meant to be a sad ending, but I cannot feel otherwise – to me it sounds sad and sort of mourning over those who slipped through your fingers…
But I enjoyed reading it – very clear, very lucid.
Thanks.

And in a way, I was mourning. If anything, mourning the fact that I was stupid enough to listen to her bad advice.
Thanks for stopping by.

Excellent ha[nay]ku, and yes how about the bad advice
young women are often given?
