Dichotomy

This was written for a Writer’s Island prompt, “Questionable” and was inspired by this post on the Diva Muse’s blog about the term MILF. Enjoy.

-Nicole

Why
is female
sexuality a division,

sharp
and succinct
between two realms:

the
first, the
land of Theotokos,

pure
and saintly,
mother and virgin

wrapped
together in
one neat package;

the
second, the
town of trollop,

where
affections lay
bared to all?

Few
can ever
be as stainless,

pure
and saintly
as Mary herself;

all
others lie
to the left

and
bereft of
that perfect purity,

become
stained by
any questionable deeds -

glances
deemed a
little too long,

dresses
deemed a
little too short,

and
eyes a
little too wise.

I
prefer the
stains of black

than
to struggle
for impossible white,

but
in the
end, I truly

prefer
a shade
of central gray.

i would like to think as a society we are moving away from the virginal stereotype for women,, i think it is such a stumbling block,, and wish that we could all live as nature intended us,, instead as how man has decided it should be….

Exactly. And the worst thing is that if you’re anything short of a virgin in the eyes of some, you’re a whore. Too much black and white.

From my greyscale territory perspective, I couldn’t agree more. Extremes of anything are unhealthy for body and spirit.

Agreed, Gemma. Thanks for dropping by.

The two extremes never cease to baffle me. Is anyone allowed to just be? Just be who they are?
Gray comes in so many amazing tints and shades and truthfully when it comes right down to it,that is really where we all are no matter what we try to portray to the world. Intention and what lies in the heart are the true measures of a person in my opinion. I agree with you ladies wholeheartedly.

Amen! Image is changeable, manipulable, and able to be misinterpreted beyond belief.

it is a blessing to know… we have only ourselves who paint the picture in the mirror regardless of stains of mistakes or the purity of truth…. btw trollop hadn’t heard that in ages..

Thanks for stopping by, pieceofpie. I last heard the word “trollop” when I was about eight or nine, and I’m 31 now…and I agree – we can accept what other folks paint onto us or not.
