You who made
us laugh,
friend –

we salute you:
class clown,
risky

and unafraid. George,
we send
you

to the hereafter
with heartfelt
thanks

for making us
laugh – and
think.

  1. He was a gifted comic!

  2. I can’t believe he’s gone!

  3. I first discovered George Carlin in college when I rented “Jammin’ in New York”. Then I went back and listened to “Class Clown”, “Carlin at Carnegie”, and his other performances. I was hooked.

What’s ironic is that we were at home listening to our “George Carlin Gold” double CD right about the time he would have died on Sunday. And it was my fiance who suggested we listen - usually it’s me wanting to put on Carlin! Weird, either coincidence or something else…

Anyway, I hope wherever he goes, whatever the hereafter holds for him, he finds good things.

    Thanks for stopping by.

  4. Hey, that’s a really cool poem. I write poetry too. I hadn’t heard of George Carlin before it came on the news, but I love comedy and I’m sure he was a great guy.

Thanks, and thank you for stopping by. If you really want to get a feel for Carlin, I would suggest watching “Jammin’ in New York”, “Class Clown”, and “Carlin at Carnegie” first. “Class Clown” and “Carlin at Carnegie” were recordings of two of his performances in the ’70’s. “Jamming in New York” is from 1992, so you’ll see some of his later stuff there.
