Jonathan’s Farewell to David

This free verse poem was written for the Friday 5 prompt at Poefusion. This week’s Five Words were: awkward, uninterrupted, fatal, damp, and skeptic. Enjoy.

awkward
silence
a moment held in tension
between two absolute lines
each a trembling column of flesh and spirit
intentions lie as battered lumps of clay
pre-golem forms within the brain
unable to form, rise up, and march
outside of flesh into the air
unable to cut the wire and walk away
yet unsure of just the right thing to say

Poetry In The Park: Saturday, August 2

I have been trying to spotlight poetry events in the Central Ohio area. I just recently found out about Poetry in the Park. Here is some more info:

Lover’s E-mail Exchange

This sedoka was written for the Three Word Wednesday prompt. This week’s words: omitted, gamble, and temporary. Enjoy.

after we have met
we discover that both have

Skeltonic #3

This skeltonic verse was written for three prompts: Poefusion’s Tuesday Title (Deep Fried Gravel), Simply Snicker’s weekly prompt (using the words: wander, wonder, weak, wilt, and wit), and today’s Meme Express Prompt (which includes this quote by George Eliot: “The strongest principle of growth lies in human choice.”).

This was written in almost a single-shot, stream-of-consciousness kind of mindframe; some of this might seem a little esoteric or unlike my normal style or subject matter. Nonetheless, I offer it for your reading pleasure. Enjoy.

with wonder;
through the diverse
corners of the Multi-verse,
I traverse
to immerse
myself in stardust,
satisfy my wanderlust. Continue reading

The Ballad of Janis Joplin

This is a ballad written for Read Write Poem Prompt #37: Hotel California. Simply, we were to write a ballad. Since I don’t normally write ballads, this was a real struggle for me, both in finding subject matter and in writing the actual ballad itself.

When I checked out Wikipedia’s entry for the subject, I discovered a list of modern ballads, which includes “Hotel California” and…Me and Bobby McGee, written by Kris Kristofferson and Fred Foster and made famous by…Janis Joplin.

The song started to float through my head and then it hit me – why not a ballad about Janis Joplin? So, here goes. I even followed the rules of traditional ballads, writing this poem in ballad meter! I hope you enjoy.
