Light

This was written for the Read Write Poem prompt #34: “this little light of mine”. On the theme of “light” I played around with the hay(na)ku form, marrying regular and reverse hay(na)ku together in each stanza. “Light” is the result of my experiment. Enjoy.

—————————————-
light
once shone
in my dreams
from the stars
moon and
sun

this
parade of
celestial royalty prostrated
itself before my
single shining
star

the
light of
father’s love was
emblazoned in colors
on my
coat

kaleidescope
rainbows in
the finest fabric
wrapped my body
and soul
daily

I
took light
as my inheritance
leaving my brothers
in the
dark

I
cast more
darkness on them
with lies and
tattle tale
words

now
the only
light I see
comes in a
hair thin
stream

a
singular strand
piercing the darkness
of this pit
where I
wait

nice form,, and sad content… if punishment was lack of light,, most of us would live in darkness…..

An interesting experiment. I think it works – I especially like

    piercing the darkness
    of this pit
    where I
    wait

  5. christine says:

Even though this is a story of Joseph, you were able to show the universal nature of waiting how humans wait in the dark, with our hopes pinned on that single strand of light. Delicate verse!

  6. nathan1313 says:

“hair thin stream of light” — a wonderful image.

  7. pieceofpie says:

  8. Thank you all for your compliments, everyone. I’ve only half been here, but I have been reading your comments. Seeing them helps me to remember why I am writing and to not give up. Thank you for visiting. :)
