Driven

This sijo was written for the One Single Impression prompt this week (“rest”). Enjoy.

empty mannequins animated by external fire -
the search for success, a whip-cracking bitch denying them rest
it finally shoves them, still wearing their suits, into soft earth graves

Great: your use of the form and the theme of this. Love the “still wearing their suits.”

Thanks for introducing me to this new form and for creating such a great piece with it. That drive for success when it overwhelms is just plain lethal.

  4. Scot says:

    wonderful–not tried this–

  5. A really fine piece, on a theme that I often return to in my own work. You did a great job with this form-I’m going to have to look into it more. Thank you for sharing this.

  6. Brad says:

This is fantastic. Thanks for introducing me to the Sijo.

  7. Tumblewords says:

    Excellent. Strong. Powerful. Concise.

  8. Raven says:

Another new form for me to contemplate…. well done.

  9. Thank you, everybody!

I think on the whole in American society we are so driven for success that we forgo the things that our bodies and minds need to run properly – including rest. I think I’ll take the longer life and the piece of mind over an early exit out of a meaningless life…and a life without love, family, friends, laughter, and higher purpose is meaningless.

I was fascinated by the soji when I first saw a post about it on Poefusion a few days ago. I will have to write more of them.

Very good Nicole. I will have to investigate this soji myself to see what it is all about.

  11. Thank you, Lisa.

I think soji are fascinating. I am always fascinated when I come across a new poetic form.
