my fingers form you
pixelated grayscale wonder

who
are
you, this
face coming
out of my mind to
stare at me from paper, wordless?

I

behind your silent

Supernatural Bridge by Rick Mobbs
Supernatural Bridge by Rick Mobbs

This was written before I knew about the latest prompt on Rick Mobbs’ blog, “Mine Enemy Grows Older” (ironically, written the same day he posted the prompt). I looked at what I’d already written and found…that it paired up with Mr. Mobbs’ work, “supernatural bridge” (pictured above) well. So here is my poem for the prompt, in all its raw glory. Enjoy.

Amritsar

“The Martyr’s Well’ at Jallianwala Bagh (from Wikipedia)

This hay(na)ku chain was written for One Single Impression Prompt #27: Spectacle. If you don’t know about the Jallianwala Bagh massacre (known probably better as the “Amritsar Massacre” in the West), you can read about it here.

Nightmare

This was written for Read Write Poem Prompt #42: Catch Some Words. I actually had composed this early this morning, before I even knew about the prompt…..

I had come across the poem “Abortion Stories” when reading a book of Jim Morrison’s poetry…and then found out that the words later became The Doors’ song, “Peace Frog”. These are the words that caught me:

“Indians scattered on a dawn’s highway bleeding,
ghosts crowd the young child’s fragile eggshell mind.”

From there, I was inspired to write “Nightmare”. Enjoy.

This was when they still called you “Jimmy”.

She Moves, Softly

she moves, softly
trailing her midnight cloak behind
indigo and gold

sweeping across the
sky, an obscuring curtain, a
star-spangled banner

which Creation salutes
some with hushed, black stillness
others with noise

a chorus of
cricket fiddles, hoots and howls
the nighttime choir

joined some nights
by crunk superlatives, thumping bass
and couples laughing

moon crowned lady
casts her soft, silent cloak
over our heads

while I worship
her age and era with
my bleeding pen
