“Albany Bulb” by Nine Volt Heart

This was written for Poefusion’s Monday Mural prompt this week. Enjoy.

—————————————

she gazes heavenward
frozen, arms stretched to the sky

she was constructed here
a garbage golem
a junk-formed Abraham
pleading for the life
of her little strand of land

whoever left her here
knows

the clock is ticking
and soon
one form of garbage
may replace another

where will the landfill be
that houses the junk produced
by another wanton strip mall beast?

at least Lot’s wife
was allowed the sparse dignity
to become a salt pillar statue

what will become of her
this garbage supplicant
pleading for the life
of Albany Bulb?

  1. This is great. Love the connection you made between the picture and the true life struggles of Albany Bulb. And, I also liked the comparison of Lot’s Wife to the sculpture. Nice job. Have a great night.

  2. I hope something can be done to save Albany Bulb as the artwork that I have seen in pictures is beautiful.

  4. Pam says:

You have a prophetic voice in this poem. I enjoyed the old testement flavor you brought in to emphasize its prophetic nature.

  5. I have not forgotten everyone, I have been reading your comments, I have just been really busy….thank you for dropping by and leaving your thoughts.

I, too, hope that Albany Bulb can be saved.
