Unchained

Wednesday, November 12, 2008

This poem was written for Poefusion’s Tuesday Title Prompt, which is “Unchained Roads”. Enjoy.

——————————————————

Unchained roads
lead to unknown melodies
on the side of the dawn,
waiting to be heard and explored,
but have been ignored
by the stiff and the bored.

Unchained melodies
play on in the upper strata
of the heavens, the multi-verse
and in our minds,
but are not inclined
to force themselves on mankind -
we must be kind
enough to find them.

Unchained hearts
seek unfettered melodies
and different drummer beats
to dance to, to prance to,
and romance to under the night
until gossamer morning light
lifts her veil and shows her delightful
face.

Unchained peoples
in common tend to
bring forth uncommon fruit
when brute force is removed
and inner strength is proved
to be stronger than the chains
injected into their veins and brains
meant to hold them back.

Unchained love
can move mountains,
walls, and people.

If you don’t think I’m telling the truth,
look around you to find the proof
of what happens to elders, middle-aged, and youth
when chains are applied or removed –

two flipsides exist, hope or despair:
in your heart, which one have you chosen to bear?

Very nice! I agree with Michelle that the ending says it all and brings the entire poem together. The very last line is my favorite.

Love how the word “unchained’ becomes the vital pulse running through the poem! Just lovely!

Thanks, everyone, for your compliments and kind words.

I thought I might have been a bit too preachy with this one, but you all have me convinced otherwise.

    Thank you for stopping by!
