About Raven’s Wing Poetry
![]() |
I am Nicole Nicholson, a 32 year-old writer currently living in Columbus, OH and the creator of Raven’s Wing Poetry. I have been writing poetry since age 12, drawing inspiration from the world, people, and events around me. I have recently been published in Word Slaw as well as in Word Catalyst Magazine. I read at the Writer’s Block Poetry open mic poetry nights held at Kafe Kerouac. I have just published a chapbook of my work entitled “Raven Feathers”. I also am creating my performance schedule for 2009. Watch this blog for more details. |

I’ve read through some of your work - it is very moving. Thank you - Siobhan
Thank you for the complement. I will be posting much more work, especially with an upcoming challenge I am participating in to write 100 poems during the month of April.
For those of you who have no idea what challenge I’m talking about, check out http://fringemonkey.wordpress.com/2008/03/18/lets-start-a-revolution/ for more details.

Thank you so much for the comment on my poem. I don’t consider myself a poet at all, sometimes I just write what’s on my mind. Coming from you, the compliment really means so much. Thanks again and have a great weekend!
No problem. I would say that anyone who desires to express him or herself through writing poetry is poet, so by that definition, you are indeed a poet, and what I saw was poetry, and very good poetry at that. Keep writing.

I enjoy reading your work. I was wondering, would you recommend an open mic night for someone who has never read in public before?
Well, here’s what I did: I went to an open mic night, with the intent of observing first. I ended up reading my first night. It’s pretty much up to you, but I can tell you that open mics would probably be a good place to start. As I said, you can go and watch for a few nights, and then jump in and sign up. Or you can be a crazy fool like me and read the first night.
It’s up to you.
Have you ever read “The Idiot’s Guide to Slam Poetry”? There is some good information about open-micing and slamming. It’s written by the slampappy himself, Marc “So What” Smith. Thanks, and good luck,
-Nicole
Thanks!
No problem. Glad I could help.
