Departure

This was actually written for three prompts: Poefusion’s Title Tuesday (“Stung by the Splendor of Sudden Black”), Writer’s Island (“Farewell”), and Simply Snickers (use the words “standing” and “still”). I wrote this entirely in American Sentences. Enjoy.

Stung by the splendor of sudden black, I failed to
bid farewell to you. Nothingness erased the
last still frame where you stood and painted it
black. I called your name, but Silence devoured my
cries into its belly. An obsidian wall separated life
and death – and therefore, us.

Summers Juxtaposed

This was a sedoka written for Read Write Poem Prompt #35: “fun in the sun” (NOT!). Here is my take. Enjoy.

released from the jaws
of school, time was now my own
to sculpt summer freedom with

twenty years later
loneliness wraps around me
in emptied, silent school halls

Exit

This was written last month, but I thought it fit in with the “Through A Window” prompt on One Single Impression. Enjoy.

This was written for the “Summer” prompt at Totally Optional Prompts. I thought I would try a cinquain form for this one. Enjoy.

After the Rain

This was written for the Simply Snickers prompt this week – write a poem with the words “day” and “discover”. I chose a tanka. Enjoy.

trees destroyed, branches broken
the rains missed a rose
I discover it, upright

Beach After Dark

The Beach by Liam515
The Beach by ~Liam515

This is a poem for Poefusion’s Friday Five. This week’s words were: dog trainer, pie, beach, whistle, and bills. Enjoy.

This beach is almost vacant after dark;
the juncture of pale peach sand and silent,
whispering ocean waves rests underneath
a sunset rainbow strata of coral,
turquoise, cornflower, and midnight black. Continue reading

Silent Drama

This was written both as a response to this week’s Simply Snickers prompt (write a poem with the words secret and silent) and as a response to the following excerpt from Monday’s post on Lutheran Surrealism:

“Even more boring: I like to watch plants grow, and to see if I can catch them at it. Hard to make a drama out of such a thing.”

So…this is my attempt to make a drama out of such a thing. And a pantoum to boot. Enjoy.

Sleep

This is my response to the Monday Mural prompt at Poefusion (the image above is this week’s prompt). I chose to write this in chained lunes. Enjoy.

-Nicole

——————————————————-
Soft sleeping Virgin,
did you fall to Earth
from your perch

on the moon
and sink into the ground
to take repose?

That moon perch
lays bowed in the sky
above sleeping eyes -

your sleeping eyes,
for us to gaze upon
in loving awe.

Dare we disturb
your quiet, entombed, lucid dreaming
to request intercession

for our frailty
as we forever unfailingly fall
and find sin?
