Days That You Will Never Forget

This fib chain was written, actually, for both of the Rocking Chair Prompts this week: “What’s really on your mind?” and “What days in your life will you always remember and why?” Enjoy.

Pieces of You

This week’s Poefusion Friday Five used these words: grandfather, post office, photo album, folder, and broken window. I wrote a fib sequence (three regular fibs, three mirrored fibs, and three reverse fibs) using this week’s words. Enjoy.

Three White Feathers

Poefusion has a new prompt: Title Tuesdays! I am coming in a day late, but I wrote something for it. This week’s title was “Three Feathers Fall A Heart”. I wrote a chain of Fibs for this prompt.

Don’t know what a Fib is? According to Wikipedia, it is a “an experimental Western poetry form, bearing similarities to haiku, but based on the Fibonacci sequence”. It is a six-line form with twenty syllables total - the syllable breakdown is 1/1/2/3/5/8. For more info heck out Wikipedia’s entry, this article, and the blog of Gregory K. Pincus.

Enjoy….

Light

This was written for the Read Write Poem prompt #34: “this little light of mine”. On the theme of “light” I played around with the hay(na)ku form, marrying regular and reverse hay(na)ku together in each stanza. “Light” is the result of my experiment. Enjoy.

An Open Letter to Patricia Smith

This, thought not written for today’s Meme Express prompt, ended up fitting in with the prompt’s theme, “forgetfulness” - a nice instance of coincidence…or did I pick up on something universal in the air? I don’t know. This triple sonnet was namely written as a poetic reaction to Patricia Smith’s poem, “Building Nicole’s Mama”.

Doorways

This was written for this week’s One Single Impression prompt #18, “doorway”. I delved into the Bible for inspiration for this pantoum, “Doorways”. This is also for this week’s Writer’s Island Matinee Muse prompt, “Avenge”. Enjoy.

Reticence

This was written for the Matinee Muse prompt “Guardian” on Writer’s Island…and as a poetic reaction to “Stranger” and “To The Stranger”. Since I wrote the first two poems, I wondered how the mysterious big city import would respond to the speaker…and wrote this as his response in a hay(na)ku chain. Enjoy.

The Artist

Michael Stipe’s bronze cameras - part of the “Relics” exhibit at the Rogan Gregory store in NYC

This poem was written for Read Write Poem Prompt #33: Wordplay is the New Black. We were encouraged in this word limiting exercise to find a way to compose poems out of a limited number of words. Some possibilities included: Shufflewords, taking words out of a book, using random words flying around in one’s brain. I devised my own way, which was to limit myself to words founds in the lyrics of R.E.M.’s third album, Fables of the Reconstruction. I used the lyrics available at Kipp Teague’s RetroWeb site and wrote a hay(na)ku chain. Enjoy.
