Ladybug

This bop was written for Read Write Poem Prompt #67: Share the Bop. A bop is a (roughly) 26 line poem with three stanzas and a refrain that repeats three times in the poem. The bop is usually structured like this (however, you can modify or expand on the form):

  1. Stanza 1: six lines, introduces a problem or situation
  2. Refrain
  3. Stanza 2: eight lines, expands more on the problem or situation, or continues from stanza 1
  4. Refrain
  5. Stanza 3: six lines, with the solution or conclusion
  6. Refrain

I had fun with this and plan to write many more bops. For the RWP prompt for this week, we were to either a) borrow two lines posted by participants as a refrain or b) write our own bop and use one of the donated couplets as an epigraph. My refrain (I want to fix you/I want to set your wings) is courtesy of Angie from The Space Between Words blog.

Now, enjoy the poem.

Caught between you two,
I was a ladybug –
spread my wings, and I flew;
spread my wings for the two of you;
spread my wings, and I knew
your love. Now, I hear your voices:

The Sun Has Spilled Upon His Face

This was written for Read Write Poem Prompt #66: Re-Imagine Your Life. I took a little license with this, so the poem isn’t about me. I took a little inspiration from R.E.M.’s “Country Feedback” (in fact, I think this poem could be an answer to this song). Enjoy.

the sun has spilled upon his face
light makes enemies of darkened thoughts
evil musings
cruel and wanton
wanting to seize him and kill him
turn him into death itself
walking, walking in endless night

Luna

This was written for Read Write Word #9 over at Read Write Poem. I’m on a self-imposed sabbatical of sorts, but I’m slowly coming back — and I’m glad to be coming back. In this spirit, I offer this poem, “Luna”. Enjoy.

I knew a woman named
Luna
and I fell in love.
I became her mad suitor,
my dilated eyes became drunk
and filled with oceans of her light.

Lines

This was written for One Single Impression Prompt #38, Courage. It is not so much a poem, but a personal statement, written as a reaction to some things I’ve encountered at work. You don’t have to agree, but all I ask is that you read….and think.

-Nicole

————————————————-
I know that there are lines, and they cut through me. I know that there are armies, and they march across my heart. I know that there are loud cacophonies of protests and do-right demands and endless rah-rah-rah cheerleading to rouse up fear and loathing of imagined or created enemies – and I find myself responding with silence. And I am repulsed at my own desire to hide in the darkness of silent assent.

Night Shift DJ In Six Sentences

This Six Sentences piece was written for the “free prompt” on Totally Optional Prompts. Enjoy.

-Nicole
———————————————————-
Unseen, he presides over the city at night with a disembodied voice in mellow and bass tones. It snakes through woofers, tweeters, and kickers, becoming chocolate gold flooding the insides of our chariots of choice. He gently teases our ears, wraps around our hearts, and rewards our submission to his seduction with Nina Simone, Sam Cooke, and Stevie Wonder. Many others follow through the night as he keeps us hanging, enraptured, onto a string of black pearls punctuated by golden station IDs, backsells, and frontsells. Painting tonight’s soundtrack as we drive through this electric city, he reminds us to look into each other’s eyes and see stars that rival the ones above us, buried behind tiny pupils. One last summer night has become stamped with his machinations hidden behind soundboards and microphones and buried deep within this city.

in it. I could drift away in the sea of
your songs, the currents of your sonic

Waterfall Prison

I was able to write something for Friday Five at Poefusion this week…this Friday’s words were: exiguous, waterfall, thoughtless, imperfect, and gifted. This is a chained lune. Enjoy.

Jonathan’s Farewell to David

This free verse poem was written for the Friday 5 prompt at Poefusion. This week’s Five Words were: awkward, uninterrupted, fatal, damp, and skeptic. Enjoy.

-Nicole

awkward
silence
a moment held in tension
between two absolute lines
each a trembling column of flesh and spirit
intentions lie as battered lumps of clay
pre-golem forms within the brain
unable to form, rise up, and march
outside of flesh into the air
unable to cut the wire and walk away
yet unsure of just the right thing to say

Lover’s E-mail Exchange

This sedoka was written for the Three Word Wednesday prompt. This week’s words: omitted, gamble, and temporary. Enjoy.
