Prayers in Exile

This was written for Read Write Word prompt #6 on Read Write Poem. Enjoy.

prayers in exile

and the rain keeps falling down

little girl, barely a woman
budding breasts too soon, ahead of the clock
wandering
wandering
inside of an envelope of night
unseen, except by the creatures who would
devour her
teachers of hardness, lust, and abandoned prayers
hope gone stale
wandering in endless night
God doesn’t exist here
except in fairy fantasy dreams like a
far-off Santa Claus
grinning, open-armed, yet out of reach

Lines

This was written for One Single Impression Prompt #38, Courage. It is not so much a poem, but a personal statement, written as a reaction to some things I’ve encountered at work. You don’t have to agree, but all I ask is that you read….and think.

————————————————-
I know that there are lines, and they cut through me. I know that there are armies, and they march across my heart. I know that there are loud cacophonies of protests and do-right demands and endless rah-rah-rah cheerleading to rouse up fear and loathing of imagined or created enemies – and I find myself responding with silence. And I am repulsed at my own desire to hide in the darkness of silent assent.

Marketplace

This stream-of-consciousness piece was written for two prompts: One Single Impression prompt #37: Paradox and this week’s Totally Optional Prompt (Marketplace). Enjoy.

Echolalia

This triptych poem was written for two prompts: Justice/Injustice at Totally Optional Prompts and Read Write Poem Prompt #49: Mission, Echolalia. This deals with a rather difficult subject (child abuse) so if you’d rather skip this one, I understand. If not, read on.

This was written last month, but I thought it fit in with the “Through A Window” prompt on One Single Impression. Enjoy.

Reticence

This was written for the Matinee Muse prompt “Guardian” on Writer’s Island…and as a poetic reaction to “Stranger” and “To The Stranger”. Since I wrote the first two poems, I wondered how the mysterious big city import would respond to the speaker…and wrote this as his response in a hay(na)ku chain. Enjoy.
