WWP Poem #40/Big Tent Poem: To Bless These Tired Throats

To Bless These Tired Throats by Nicole Nicholson

—————————————
This poem was written for two prompts: We Write Poems Prompt #40: Triptych Relationship and this week’s Big Tent Poetry Prompt, which was a Wordle. I adore Wordles, and I love triptych poems. Two things inspired this poem: 1) a broadcast on CNN yesterday afternoon about the protests in Egypt, and 2) the fact that today in the Catholic calendar is the Feast of St. Blaise, and throats are being blessed today by priests because of this. I hope you enjoyed this poem.

Revolution Progress Update, 5/1/08

Well, yesterday was the last day of April, and I’ve written my 100 poems. 50 of them are posted here. The other fifty are chapbook material or stuff I am leaving aside to continue development on.

Overall, I’m glad I took the challenge. If nothing else, it forced me to produce. It forced me to write and really rethink the idea of what I could write about. I found ideas mostly jumping in front of me and presenting themselves easily. And I was able to silence my inner critic long enough to stop her from rejecting an idea before I wrote once I kept my focus on the 100 poem goal.

Oddly enough, I ended up with a mean case of writer’s block yesterday evening. With five left to write. I don’t know why – perhaps being so near to the goal line. Thank God, I got past it.

I have to thank David. This whole thing was his idea.

I want to do this again next year.
