Handle With Care

This was written is response to Rob Kistner sharing a favorite thing, in this case a song, “Fragile”, by Sting. I was moved and was prompted to write this in response for Read Write Poem #57: ‘Tis the Season for Sharing. Enjoy.

—————————————–
we are fragile
humans are fragile
fragile enough to
snap in two

human skin wraps
such fragile packages as souls vibrating
burning and yearning
to be their own solid truths –
one misstep begets
a thousand years of heartbreak and
wounds never closing
yet loquaciously bleeding
fractures on display

snowflakes are tougher
than these emanations
from divine fingers
before the wheel began spinning and
we came to be
you see
I AM multiplied in sparks in the dark
“let there be light”
and there was light – us
and God saw that the light was good
crystalline, beautiful
kaleidescope colors to properly propagate Paradise

but light is fragile
can be snuffed out
can fade in never ending darkness

and so we
can become black nothingness
shadows
chalk outlines where we died
because we let the wounds bleed
for too long

but we can wound each other
too easily
snuff out candles with roaring gale force winds
when all we meant was a gentle breeze
or revel in the darkness we multiple all around
become profound insane sadists snuffing candles out
for fun and profit
snuff too many candles out and you will live in the dark
without vibrant vibrating light
and you will be without sight
living in frigid, liquid darkness
alone

I am fragile

you are fragile

we are fragile

so handle with care

I love this passage — it’s gorgeous… I AM did an amazing job!

I find the photo above haunting, absolutely captivating… the crumpled letter must have contained devastating news — so very heart wrendhing.

  3. I like the way you sandwich so much between the two lines of ‘we are fragile’ and then finish up with ‘so handle with care’.

  4. Great picture. Fits the words perfectly.

    Truly fragile…

    book of myth or reality?
